The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting on December 3 to listen to a summary and assessment report on poverty alleviation. CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the meeting and delivered an important speech.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee has united and led the entire party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country, placed poverty alleviation in a prominent position in governance, and gave full play to the party’s leadership and the political advantages of my country’s socialist system. Major initiatives of originality and uniqueness have organized and implemented the largest and most powerful fight against poverty in human history. After 8 years of continuous struggle, we have completed the key tasks for poverty alleviation in the new era as scheduled. Under the current standards, all rural poor people have been lifted out of poverty, and all poor counties have been removed. Absolute poverty and regional overall poverty have been eliminated. Nearly 100 million poor people have been lifted out of poverty. A major victory has been achieved that has made the whole world admire.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the major victory in poverty alleviation has laid a solid foundation for the realization of the first centenary goal, greatly enhanced the people's sense of gain, happiness, and security, completely changed the face of impoverished areas, and improved production and living conditions. The quality of life of the people has been improved, and the "two no worries and three guarantees" have been fully realized. In the practice of poverty alleviation, the Party Central Committee adheres to the people's supremacy and people-oriented, and regards the poor people and the people of all ethnic groups across the country to move towards a well-off society and live a good life together as the starting point and goal of poverty alleviation. Party committees and governments at all levels, as well as the society, work together to tackle tough issues. The eastern and western regions help each other and cooperate to tackle tough issues.
